ServiceNow Reports, dashboards & review
Turn records into useful insights and review the foundation course.
By Nayeem · ServiceNow Architect and Certified Technical Architect
Understand the concept
Reports summarise records using a defined source, filters and visualisation. Dashboards bring useful views together. A count is meaningful only when its table, conditions, grouping and audience are understood. Reporting interfaces vary by release and enabled analytics capabilities.
A practical business example
A support lead wants the count of active incidents by assignment group and priority to identify where work is accumulating.
What you will learn
- Create a report with conditions and grouping
- Add reports to a dashboard
- Complete the Day 15 hands-on exercise
Step-by-step practice
Use a personal learning instance and suitable permissions. Record your starting configuration before changing it.
- Write the question and select the incident data source available in your instance.
- Apply Active is true and choose a simple count grouped by assignment group.
- Compare one group’s reported count with a matching list filter.
- Add the report or available visualisation to a practice dashboard and test sharing with the intended viewer.
Common mistakes and troubleshooting
A dashboard may load while an individual report is inaccessible. Check report permissions and underlying record access. Do not confuse a current backlog count with a historical trend.
How can I validate a report?
Compare a small, understandable slice against the underlying records using equivalent filters and the same user access. Investigate differences before sharing it.
